ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra has urged the Army to ensure security in the border areas and also to instill a sense of security among the people living in those areas.
Interacting with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of HQ 56 Infantry Division, Major General VK Purohit, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here on Monday, Mishra said this will arrest migration of people from border areas to the urban areas.
The Governor advised the GOC to initiate civic action programmes for the welfare of the people and also to cultivate goodwill among them towards the armed forces. He further asked the Army to provide all assistance to the civil administrations during natural calamities and in emergency.
The duo also discussed security in the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed.
Mishra also praised the GOC for taking initiative in preparing students in his area of responsibility for admission in the Sainik School at Niglok in the East Siang district and National Defence Academy.
"It will open a great opportunity for our tribal students from all districts of the State," he said.
The Governor advised that students from schools being run under the aegis of the Army to be prepared for admission in the lone Sainik School and in the National Defence Academy.
Major General Purohit assured the Governor of ensuring that maximum students are coached to join Sainik School, Niglok or the National Defence Academy.
