ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brigadier (Retired) Dr BD Mishra on Friday urged the people to take all steps and initiative to protect, conserve and restore the pristine natural resources and environment. In his message to the people on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Governor said that the day is celebrated globally, every year to raise awareness for the preservation and protection of the environment and natural resources.
"India is celebrating this day with over 143 countries for public outreach. This year's theme for the World Environment Day is "Ecosystem Restoration"," BD Mishra said.
Dr Mishra said that the State with its rich natural flora and fauna has the highest forest cover with 79.63 per cent in terms of a total geographical area in India. In view of its rich biological diversity and ecosystems, our state is a biodiversity hotspot of the world.
He appealed to the people including government departments, student communities, scientist, NGOs, educational institutions, environmentalist, researchers, corporate leaders, traders, to take a pledge for the protection, conservation and restoration of our precious environment and its ecosystem for posterity.
"I also take this opportunity to implore my people in the state to fully observe COVID Appropriate Behaviour for safety against this pandemic," the Governor said in his message.
