Itanagar: Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday conveyed their greetings to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

The Governor expressed hope that the occasion would strengthen the splendid spirit of unity in diversity in the society. In his message to the people, the governor said that Nanak showed all the path of peace, harmony and righteousness.

“His teachings of love, compassion, truthfulness and sacrifice are of eternal relevance. His divine message of purity of thought, excellence of conduct and tolerant temperament is ever very essential to transform the society for better,” he said.

“On this blessed occasion, I appeal to all my fellow citizens to imbibe Guru Nanak Dev’s noble teachings and rededicate to the cause of national unity and integrity,” Dr Mishra added.

Khandu in his message said, “On the pious day of Kartik Purnima – the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikkhism, I join my Sikh brethren in offering prayers to the Guru and revelling in the joy and happiness of his advent into the world to spread peace and humanity.”

He cited the three guiding principles of Guru Nanak Dev – ‘Naamjapana, kiratkarna, vandchhakana’ which means to repeat God’s name, to be ready to engage in the labour of one’s hands and to be willing to share with others what one has gathered are said to be the three principles underlying Sikh ethics and way of life.

“Guru Nanak Dev taught us the dignity of labour and to share whatever we have earned. Let’s resolve on this day to follow his teachings in true spirit and see the world change where there’s no inequality and everybody is happy,” Khandu added.
