Itanagar: At least 18 labourers went missing while one lost his life near the Indo-China border in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh after all of them reportedly drowned in the Kumey river.

The labourers, who went missing for the last 14 days, were engaged in road construction in Damin.

Notably, all of the 19 labourers were reported to be missing from the project site last week and as per Deputy Commissioner, a labourer's body was recovered from a nearby river.

As per officials concerned, the workers had reportedly requested the contractor, Bengia Bado, to grant them leave to celebrate Eid but the contractor refused to give them permission.

As a result, all of them decided to flee on foot and they subsequently went missing in the dense jungles of Kurung Kumey district.

Reportedly, most of the missing labourers reportedly belonged to the Muslim community and were from Assam.

Officials further informed that a rescue team will be sent to the site location so as to find the missing workers and confirm the rumours that they all drowned in the Kumey river.
