Arunachal Pradesh: 42 Govt Employees Arrested So Far In APPSC Paper Leak Case

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh home minister Bamang Felix informed that as many as 42 government employees have been arrested so far in Arunachal Pradesh in connection with the notorious Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case.

It was also revealed that out of the 42 government employees arrested thus far, 20 are on probation and 22 others are regular employees.

Those arrested thus far also include APPSC deputy secretary and deputy controller of examinations – Taket Jerang.

Arunachal Pradesh home minister Bamang Felix said that the state government is taking all possible steps in relation to the APPSC paper leak case.

However, Felix clarified that certain actions cannot be taken as a CBI probe is on and only after the investigation is completed can the process be completed.

Arunachal home minister Felix, on Wednesday met members of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee and the All Nyishi Students’ Union. The Arunachal state government has agreed to implement all demands raised by the two organisations, steps which will pave the way for a better future for the students aspiring for civil services. After meeting the representatives of the two organisations, the Arunachal Pradesh home minister reiterated that the state government has agreed to all of their demands.

Furthermore, Arunachal Pradesh home minister Bamang Felix informed that the Gauhati high court has designated the district and session court at Yupia as a fast track court to take up cases related to the APPSC paper leak incident. The paper leak cases are expected to be resolved on a fast track basis, a step that will go a long way in assuaging the fears of Arunachal’s students who are planning to opt for the civil services. The APPSC paper leak completely eroded the confidence of the students in the recruitment body plagued by scams.

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), the examining and appointing authority of civil servants in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, was recently rocked by a paper leak row during exams to recruit assistant engineers (civil). The exams were conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Following the paper leak, the exams were cancelled and the Arunachal government promised to punish all perpetrators of the crime.

The affected students organized protests under the banner of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee. The initially peaceful protests later turned violent as stones were pelted at the police personnel posted at the protests venue. Police also retaliated with baton charges and many students- both male and female- were injured.

Now that Arunachal Pradesh home minister Baman Felix on Wednesday met members of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee and the All Nyishi Students’ Union- the two organisations spearheading the movement to cleanse the APPSC of all corrupt officials- a better future for Arunachal’s students is not too distant a dream.
