Arunachal Pradesh: 7-Year-Old Geto Sora To Take Part In International Badminton Competition

ITANAGAR: Geto Sora, a badminton prodigy from Arunachal, has once again brought honour to his home state and nation. For the Tops Arena International Junior Badminton Championship, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 19–23, the under-9 ace shuttler has been chosen.

Sora will compete in the U-9 and U-11 boys' singles events of the championship, according to Arunachal State Badminton Association secretary-general Bamang Tago.

Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, expressed her admiration for Sora on Twitter and noted that the young man has the potential to fly. He asserted that the tale of Master Geto Sora, a young talented shuttler from Arunachal Pradesh, aged 7, is very comforting. Khandu also praised Sora for making Arunachal Pradesh and our nation proud.

In the Yonex-Singha-BTY Championships 2022, Sora won the U-9 boys singles championship.

The international competition, which attracted about 802 shuttlers from ten different nations, took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 2 to November 7.

Sora won the first international gold medal of his career after defeating Thailand's Phukit Chantarangsee, the third seed, in two sets of straight games of 20-11 and 20-11. Sora had previously defeated top-seeded players Kritin Phutthawilai of Thailand and Yi Kang Liu of Malaysia in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively, to secure his place in the championship's grand final.

In addition, Sora took home the gold at the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship in Guwahati, Assam in 2020.

Geto Sora became the state's youngest badminton player to ever claim an international title.

The young Thai badminton prodigy, who is only 7 years old, gained notoriety after winning the international BTY-Yonex-Singha Championship at the Banthongyord Badminton School in Bangkok.

He won the tournament's title on Tuesday by defeating Thailand's third-seeded Phukit Chantarangsee in two easy 20-11, 20-11 sets, according to Arunachal State Badminton Association secretary-general Bamang Tago.

In the semifinal and quarterfinal matches, Sora defeated Malaysia's Yi Kang Liu and Thailand's top seed Kritin Phutthawilai, respectively.
