Arunachal Pradesh celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

Along with the rest of the country, the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” (National Unity Day) was celebrated in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday with various programmes and a unity run.State Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra while participating in a programme at Raj Bhawan here on the occasion, administrated the National Unity Day pledge to all members of the Governor’s establishment and ITBP personnel.

The “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” commemorates the birth anniversary of “Iron Man of India” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is also the first Home Minister of the country.

Greeting the people on the occasion, the Governor recalled the contributions of Sardar Patel, who is credited with achieving political integration of India immediately after the Independence and accomplished the colossal task of obtaining accession of over 562 princely states in India.

Dr Mishra exhorted the people to strengthen the spirit of unity and integrity amongst the people of the States and the country.He said that for strong global political importance, it is the duty of every citizen to maintain the unity and integrity passed down to the present generation by the founding leaders of Indian freedom struggle particularly Patel.

The officers and officials pledged to dedicate themselves to preserve the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread the message of national unity among the fellow countrymen. They also took the pledge in the spirit of unification of the country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The Governor also led the Rashtriya Ekta March on the occasion.The officers and staff of the State Department of Information and Public Relations also took the unity pledge to mark the 144th birth anniversary of Patel.The oath was administered to the participants by the IPR Director Obang Tayeng in the premises of the Directorate.

The day was also celebrated at Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district where a two kilometre mini-marathon with the theme “Run for Unity” was organised from Nehru Stadium to Tumjo bridge.

Extra Assistant Commissioner Tagam Mibang administered Ekta pledge to the participants and later flagged-off “Run for Peace” mini-marathon for both boys and girls category in presence of Tirap district SP Tirap Kardak Riba.
