Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu assured to incorporate provisions in the State Budget for 2019-20, for the greater welfare of journalists, including pension scheme after threadbare discussion with a team of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) in his office here.
APUWJ president Amar Sangno, who lead a ten-member team, briefed him that many States of India, including Assam, Manipur and Tripura have implemented such scheme which offers monthly pension to journalists after attaining 58 years of age.
Pema Khandu directed his secretary Sonam Chombay, who said the scheme would be based on eligibility criteria and State resources.
The Chief Minister also nodded to issue a circular for concessional rate of state government guest houses for journalists on duty within and across the country, frame a robust electronic/digital media policy, considering enacting law like Maharashtra for media persons and media institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, 2017 for protection of working journalists besides, step to implement Wage Board recommendations directed by the Supreme Court. Sangno also suggested Khandu to constitute a regulatory body to scrutinize online provocative and fake news by floating electronic journalists.
