ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government has assured to fulfill the two-point demands of the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) at the earliest. However, the ITW appealed to give a written assurance within one week, else the dharna will continue.
ITW has been demanding the State Government to regularize the ITW under Home department and fully fledged introduction of ITW in Traffic cell, Itanagar. The traffic wardens have been on indefinite strike for almost a week and have also threatened to go for hunger strike.
Speaking to the reporters, 4th batch of ITW Lomra Tapa said that a meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar where various issues pertaining to the traffic wardens were discussed. Accordingly, CS assured the ITW to look into their demands. The meeting was attended by CS, IGP Chukhu Apa, Home Commissioner, SP (ICR) Jimmy Chiram, DC Capital Talo Potom and other officials.
Tapa said, on request and assurance by the CS, the ITWs resumed work on Monday. He also appealed to the 158 ITWs to not go for work unless any official letter to resume the work was provided.
"We have temporarily suspended the dharna but will continue if the demands are not fulfilled in written format. The dharna may resume any time if the demands are not fulfilled in due time as per assurance by the State Government," he added.
