Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has adopted the ‘detention’ policy in place of its earlier policy of ‘no detention’ at the elementary level of education to improve the poor performance of the government schools in the state.

The education department has restored the Arunachal Pradesh State Board Examination in Class-V and VIII in the state from the academic session 2017-18 after 22 long years, official sources informed here on Tuesday.

“The government police of ‘No Detention’ at the elementary level is one of the main reasons for consistency in poor performance of students,” the sources said adding, dearth of subject teachers particularly in mathematics and science in schools posed a major problem in bringing quality education in the state.

The sources added that the state government has taken a major step to recruit 125 PGT and 540 TGT teachers through competitive examinations conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). “The state cabinet had also in the last cabinet meeting during June took several important decisions to overhaul the education sector in the state,” the sources added.
