ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Saturday extended his good wishes to the people of the State in general and all the Red Cross volunteers in particular on the special occasion of World Red Cross Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross.
He expressed his hope that the occasion will motivate more and more people to join the Red Cross organization and enhance the number of enthusiastic volunteers to be the first responders in time of need for helping the society.
In his message, Mishra said that Jean Henry Dunant, the joint recipient of first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, started the Red Cross movement with the aim of assisting the wounded on the battlefield.
"Over the years it has evolved further and today it stands to protect life and health of the people and to ensure the dignity of individuals. The International Red Cross movement started by Jean Henry Dunant and Red Crescent Movement now are the world's largest humanitarian network, with 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working to save lives, build community resilience, strengthen local crisis support systems and prevent human suffering around the world," he said.
"It promotes mutual consultation and cooperation for lasting peace amongst all peoples without any discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It is doing great humane work and performing well everywhere it is assigned to," he added.
The Governor said that in India, the Red Cross Societies are promoting the mission of Red Cross in a commendable way and are preparing volunteers to provide succor in disasters of all types, all intensities and in all parts of the country.
"As the President of Indian Red Cross Society's Arunachal Pradesh branch, I am proud of the volunteers for helping people to the best of their capacity, like their good helping role during the peak time of Covid-19 pandemic. I am sanguine that the Arunachali Red Cross volunteers will continue to render yeoman service to our needy and less privileged people," he said.
"On this World Red Cross Day, I appeal to my beloved sisters and brothers of Arunachal Pradesh to join the Red Cross Society and be part of this world famous organization and reinforce their endeavors to relieve the suffering of human beings, whenever, wherever and whichever way needed," the Governor added in his message.
