ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra on Saturday greeted the people of the State on the occasion of 'Kargil Diwas' to be celebrated on Sunday.

In his message, the Governor said that on the very special occasion of 'Kargil Diwas', he joined his fellow citizens of Arunachal Pradesh in paying tribute to the gallant soldiers of India, who stood firm in their line of duty. He also conveyed his warm greetings to the people of the State, who have always stood firm with the Indian Armed forces.

Dr Mishra expressed his hope that the occasion will inspire patriotism, nationalism, and spirit to sacrifice for the defence of the nation, amongst the country men.

He said that the 'Kargil Diwas' marks the success of 'Operation Vijay' launched by the Armed forces in 1999 against the Pakistani regulars and militia troops, who, in violation of Line of Control (LoC) sanctity, had occupied Indian territory in Kargil, the highest battlefield of the world, in Kashmir. "Our valiant soldiers fought with grit and guts and successfully retrieved and reasserted the territorial integrity of our motherland. During the intense war, many of our warriors laid down their life and made supreme sacrifice for the defence of the country," the Governor said in his message. "We stand in salute to those officers and troops who gave their 'today' for our 'tomorrow'. Our great nation will always draw inspiration from the sacrifices of those brave hearts," Dr Mishra said. "As a befitting, tribute to our Kargil 'yodhas', let us take a pledge to defend our country with our full will and might," the Governor added in his message.
