ITANAGAR: At least 172 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the total caseload in the northeastern State to 26,950, a senior health department official said on Monday.

The death toll in the State rose to 115 with one more person succumbed to the infection on Sunday, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

A 74-year-old lady from Tawang died at the Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) in the district on Sunday due to COVID Pneumonia. She was suffering from Diabetes Mellitus with Hypertension, the official said. The Capital Complex region recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 52, followed by Lower Subansiri (20), Upper Subansiri and Tawang with 17 each, Changlang (13) and Lower Dibang Valley with 10.

Eight new cases were also reported from Lohit, seven from Anjaw, five from East Siang, four from Papumpare, three each from Dibang Valley and Longding, two each from East Kameng, Namsai, Tirap, Upper Siang and West Siang while one each case was also detected in West Kameng, Kurung Kumey and Leparada district respectively, the SSO said. Of the fresh cases 167 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 3 through RT-PCR and 2 through TrueNat method, the official said adding, 80 people have symptoms. The frontier State now has 3,783 active cases.

As many as 306 more people were recovered from the disease on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 23,052. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stands at 84.54 per cent while the active percentage stands at 14.03 and the positivity rate at 3.9 per cent, Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 696, followed by Tawang (453), Changlang (438), Namsai (301), Lower Subansiri (268) and Lower Dibang Valley with 261 cases.

Altogether, 5,80,353 samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the state so far, including 4,356 on Sunday, Jampa said.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 3,41,060 people have been administered Covid-19 vaccine doses so far in the state since the inoculation drive began in January. Keeping in view the spurt in coronavirus cases, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday, decided to extend lockdown in seven districts of the state for seven days till June 7 next.
