ITANAGAR: The anti-drug squad (ADS) of Tirap police in Arunachal Pradesh during a raid, arrested five drug peddlers and seized contraband substances, suspected to be heroin and brown sugar, weighing about 115.72 grams with containers from their possession, of market value worth Rs 1.5 lakh, police said here on Friday.
Based on input from sources regarding the dealing and consumption of contraband drugs at Bank colony Khonsa, the ADS unit of Tirap Police led by DSP Togum Gongo, Inspector W Kamhua, SI L Kimsing along with other jawans, swung into action, under the direct supervision of SP Kardak Riba and conducted a raid in the residence of one Wangsham Wachok, a drug addict and habitual peddler.
Five persons were arrested on Thursday including, Wachok (33), Range Mangyut (36), Yumto Noksok (27), Donny K. Wangnaw (33) and 32-years-old Dongpong Kungkho, who were in a state of intoxication, the SP said.
The search was conducted in front of independent witnesses and executive magistrate Ripi Doni and contraband substances weighing about 115.72 grams with containers were seized from their possession, Riba said.
The team also recovered cash, mobile handsets, SIM cards, empty plastic bags along with other items.
Accordingly, a criminal case under NDPS ACT 1985 has been registered at Khonsa police station and an investigation was taken up.
"Tirap police is committed to zero tolerance towards contraband drugs consumers and peddlers. We will ensure that law is not only meant to be practised but also to be enforced at times for the greater cause of society. Tirap police once again appeal to one and all for rendering co-operation in curbing the crime rate in the district," the SP added.
