ITANAGAR: The COVID-19 caseload in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 28,018 with 376 more people tested positive for the infection, a senior health department official said here on Thursday.

The death toll in the state increased to 118 with two more persons succumbing to the disease in the past two days, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

A 56-year-old lady from the Capital Complex region died at the Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) Chimpu near here, on Monday due to acute respiratory distress syndrome. She was suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, the official said.

Another lady of 51 years of age from Lower Siang died at DCH Pasighat in East Siang district on Wednesday due to Covid Pneumonia. She was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.

The Capital Complex region continued to witness the highest spurt in fresh cases with 82, followed by Tawang (51), Lower Subansiri (36), Namsai, Changlang and West Kameng at 28 each, Lohit (19), Leparada (18), East Kameng (16) and Upper Siang at 12.

Nine new cases were also reported from Upper Subansiri, eight each from Pakke Kessang and Lower Dibang Valley, seven from East Siang, Papumpare (6), four each from Anjaw and Longding, two each from West Siang, Tirap, Kra Daadi, Kamle and Dibang Valley and one each from Kurung Kumey and Shi-Yomi district respectively, the SSO said. Of the fresh cases 360 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 12 through RT-PCR and 4 through TrueNat method, the official said adding, 135 people have symptoms. The frontier state now has 3,817 active cases. At least 329 more people were recovered from the disease on Wednesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 24,083.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stands at 85.95 per cent while the active percentage stands at 13.62 and the positivity rate at 5.23 per cent, Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 709, followed by Tawang (436), Changlang (352), Lower Subansiri (306), Namsai (298), Lower Dibang Valley (235), West Kameng (225) and Lohit with 201 cases.
