ITANAGAR: The COVID-19 tally in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 63,982 after 42 more people tested positive for the infection, a senior Health Department official said here on Sunday.

Of the fresh 50 cases, ten were reported from West Kameng, nine from Lower Subansiri and four each from the Capital Complex Region, Upper Siang and Namsai district respectively, the official said.

As many as 62,993 people have recuperated from the disease in the State so far, including 197 on Saturday, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The death toll in the Northeastern state remained at 294 as no casualty was reported in the past 24 hours, the official said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 695 active COVID-19 cases, the SSO said.

The recovery rate among patients marginally improved to 98.45 per cent from 98.21 per cent the previous day, he said.

Among the fresh cases, 40 were detected through rapid antigen test and one each through RT-PCR and TrueNAT methods Jampa said, adding that 12 of them have developed COVID-19 symptoms.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 158, followed by Lower Subansiri at 132, West Kameng (63), East Siang (42) and Lohit at 35 cases.

A total of 12,54,565 samples have been tested for the infection in the State so far, including 523 on Saturday, Jampa said, adding that the positivity rate remained at 8.03 per cent.

State Immunization Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung said that as many as 16,06,667 people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines so far.

At least 62,735 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated and 20,630 senior citizens received the booster jab.
