ITANAGAR: Along with the rest of the country, Arunachal Pradesh on Friday joined the Fit India Movement, with hundreds of men and women joined in a kilometer run to encourage people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives.
The event here was jointly organized by Directorate of Sports and Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) in association with Sports Authority of India, while the urban development department officials pitched in with the runners.
Karate Association of India (KAI) President Likha Tara, before flagging off the run, in his address, termed the occasion as auspicious being coinciding with the 151st Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
"The way Gandhi through non-violence had won freedom for India from British rule, you being the living assets of the nation should emulate Gandhian virtues in your daily life and behavior for India to be identified globally as a firm nation," Tara, flanked by Arunachal Karate-Do Association general secretary Deven Sharma, said.
Papum Pare sports officer Tarak Dotang in his address to the gathering including IMC assistant engineer Nabam Soni and Techi Jona, ITBP and civil police personnel, underscored the importance of run and urged all to ensure their safety while running.
The Fit India Movement was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi on August 29 last year coinciding with National Sports Day, Dotan said and added that, "Post your run in social media for rest of India to know we are equally fit."
