Itanagar: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have apprehended two
cadres of two factions of the NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland) and
recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
Based on intelligence inputs about presence of the cadres, an operation was launched and self-styled second lieutenant Panpoh Pansa of NSCN (IM) and self-styled private Pegang Gangsa of NSCN (U) was arrested.
The Longding district police team led by SP Vikram H.M. Meena along with personnel of the Sixth Assam Rifles apprehended the cadres from Longding district on Friday evening during a joint operation. Two Chinese make .32mm pistols with live rounds; one smart phone and a mobile SIM were seized from their possession, police said on Saturday.
Both the rebels hail from Votnu village under Pongchau Circle of the district. The duo was active in extorting money and threatening local villagers.
However, their movement was monitored meticulously and relentless pursuit led to their apprehension, the sources said.
During interrogation, Pansa revealed that he was recruited into the NSCN-IM in 2007 while though Gangsa had joined the outfit in 2018, he defected to NSCN-U in 2019.
A case had been registered at Longding Police Station, added the sources.
