ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) on Thursday conducted an awareness camp on menstrual hygiene at Pech Hoj village under Toru circle in the Papum Pare district, which was sponsored by the National Commission for Women (NCW).

Addressing the women present, APSCW Vice-Chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad spoke on importance of awareness programme for giving exposure and empowering the women in rural areas.

Commission's member Kago T Yassung, who is also the president of the Arunachal Pradesh State branch of Trained Nurses' Association of India, dwelt on menstrual hygiene, while Ngurang Nama, another member of APSCW, spoke on roles and function of the women panel.

Earlier, APSCW Member Secretary Mabi Taipodia briefly highlighted the aims and objectives of awareness programme and said that awareness on menstruation is very important, especially in rural areas, to break the taboo and end the stigma. More than 60 participants attended the camp, where free sanitary pads were distributed.

To commemorate the World Menstrual Day celebration, which was conducted on May 28 last, a 'nukkad natak' was also performed by the women of Rayee Panchayat Self Help Group.
