Itanagar: Paras Singh, the YouTuber who had insulted Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering and the people of Arunachal Pradesh has been picked up by Punjab Police from his home in Ludhiana. Singh's racist comments made at former MP and Pasighat MLA Ering and the people of the state has snowballed into a big row with political leaders, student bodies, and people, in general, condemning the comments and demanding strict action against Singh.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs had tweeted talking about the Punjab Police's action against Singh.

A team of Arunachal Pradesh Police is also reaching Punjab to take Singh in their custody. Arunachal Pradesh Court has issued non-bailable warrant against Singh.

Singh had in one of his videos posted on YouTube said that Ering did not look like an Indian, his name did not seem like an Indian name. He looks more like Chinese. Singh was also disrespectful while talking about Arunachal Pradesh. This resulted in an uproar and outrage not just in Arunachal Pradesh but across the northeast. Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, Deputy CM Chowna Mein, AAPSU all condemned Paras Singh's racist remarks and demanded the arrest and strictest action against Singh. The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has filed an FIR against Singh in Itanagar.

Paras had apologised, so did his mother after he was picked up by Punjab Police.

This incident has once again highlighted the fact that several Indians know very little about the northeastern part of the country and its people. Several cases of racial discrimination against people of Northeast have been reported over the years. Cases of youths from Nagaland assaulted, youths from Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh beaten to death have been reported earlier from the national capital Delhi and one of its upmarket suburbs Gurgaon, the hitech city of entire north India.
