ITANAGAR: In an effort to stop 'foreign misadventure' and develop the border areas, the Arunachal Pradesh Government has announced to build three model villages along the Indo-Tibet China borders on a pilot basis.

The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein while presenting the 2021-22 Budget in the state assembly on Wednesday.

I am happy to announce a major initiative to develop three model villages on a pilot basis in the Indo-Tibet China border areas – one each in the Eastern, Central and one Western part of the state," Mein said in his budget speech.

A total of Rs 30 crore has been allocated for the project that will be developed initially in the Eastern, Central and Western parts of the state along the international border.

Disclosing that the model villages would serve as pilot projects it would be further expanded to cover many such villages. "It is of critical importance to develop the areas near the international border so as the border populace can act as a check against any foreign misadventure," said Mein.

The proposed scheme would encompass innovative ways to dovetail social-economic-cultural needs of village life while establishing the model villages, Mein said.

Border Guarding forces will be roped in for designing and implementing the scheme.

Asserting that the development of the border areas is a priority for the government, Mein said that under the Narendra Modi led government the areas have witnessed the development and is committed to working for the comprehensive development of border villages by providing them good road connectivity, power, water supply, health, and education.

Along with the model villages, the State Government also proposed to allocate Rs 5 crore for the repair of foot suspension bridges in border areas used by the border guarding forces for patrolling.

The Government also propose to launch a border village illumination programme thereby establishing small and micro hydels in remote border areas which can be used in local grid or off-grid mode
