BORDUMSA: In what can be described as a rare development concerning maternity care and human lives, a female Arunachal bound passenger– Surjo Mala Chakma – gave birth to her young one in a running Shramik train at 11.55 am, close to New Jalpaiguri Station in West Bengal on June 18 afternoon.

Several Chakma NGOs and student body immediately started contacting the Railway Helpline, Railway Protection Force, Medical Helpline to extend necessary medical help earlier when the mother was undergoing labour pain.

"Fortunately, the delivery took place before they reached NJP, where the medical team was waiting. The mother was administered necessary injection, medicines, fluids, food besides also assessing the baby's health," informed the co-worker.

However, upon contacting one the co-passengers, it was informed that both the child and mother are in good condition.
