Arunachal's Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung attends Annual College Day of DNGC

ITANAGAR: Arunachal's Minister Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung said that "having an education is one thing, being educated is another", while attending the 42nd Annual College Day celebration of the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) held near here on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, Natung said that being educated is more important than having an education. Unless a person is educated, hoping for any kind of development which will last forever cannot be ever imagined. Therefore, students should choose what to have, to just have an education or to be educated.

He also said that students should learn to take ownership in the protection of Government infrastructure development made to date in any sector. Likewise, the students should also create a feeling of ownership within for the preservation of the environment and forest.

"I also appeal to the students to involve themselves in sports & games activity for a healthy body and sound mind. Our youths have the potential to excel in any activity and win medals for the State, only there is a need for technical guidance and polishing," he said.

He also informed there are more than 500 sports associations affiliated with the State Government and sportspersons from different disciplines have won many medals for the State.

"These achievements make us proud. Recently, in the National Games, our State won 7 medals among which 6 are gold and 1 is bronze. I want our youths to play not only to win but for healthy living," he added.

Meanwhile, DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan said that though the college completed its 46 years of existence but the college is celebrating its 42nd Annual College Day. He said that during the week, students will be participating in sports activities and athletic, cultural, and literary events.

He said that the celebration will culminate on November 11 when a valedictory function will also be held like every year.

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual college day celebration couldn't be conducted. As of now, everything is normal, the celebration will continue wherein more than 4,000 students from the college will be witnessing as well as participating in the event," he said.

He said that the students are divided into four groups. The names of the groups have been named in remembrance of former State Chief Ministers. The idea is to remember their contribution towards the development and growth of the State, he added.

"The theme of the celebration, 'together for a peaceful Arunachal', is to inculcate, promote and preserve the feeling of 'Pan Arunachal' amongst the students as well as the teaching fraternity," he said, adding that without the idea of Pan Arunachal, the State won't see peace and development.
