Bamang Felix seeks action plan to complete Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Information and Public Relations (IPR) Minister Bamang Felix has directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to come up with a detailed action plan in a week's time to complete the construction of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) at Jote, near here.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow progress of work, Felix said the CPWD needs to ensure its completion within the revised deadline of May 31, 2022 and for which a detailed action plan needs to be prepared. Felix asked the CPWD to prepare the action plan, during a coordination meeting here on Monday with the officials of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), CPWD and the IPR directorate, an official communiqué informed here on Tuesday.

Located around 20 km away from the State capital, the upcoming FTII at Jote is the first film and television institute of the Northeast and the third in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the institute in February 2019. Felix also directed the officials of the IPR department to visit the FTII site once in a week to monitor the progress of work and assist in troubleshooting the issues, if any.

He exhorted the officials present during the meeting to go beyond their duties and consider FTII's establishment as their responsibility towards the future generation and further assured all possible assistance from the state government for the institute's completion on time. He, however, also made it clear that negligence by the authorities concerned in its completion or creation of hurdles by private individuals or groups would not be tolerated.

CPWD executive engineer Parsoon Kumar Pal assured the minister that all the structures of the institute would be completed by December this year. "All residential structures for the institute have been completed and we have scheduled March 31, 2022 as the final completion date, which is two months ahead of the official completion deadline," Pal said.

Taking part in the discussion SRFTI director Debasish Ghoshal informed that the institute is pursuing the recruitment of 65 staff, both teaching and non-teaching, for the FTII with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. "The appointments are likely to be sanctioned shortly and it will ensure that the FTII is operational when it gets inaugurated," Ghoshal said.

Several other issues concerning the institute were also discussed in detail during the meeting.
