ITANAGAR: The state unit of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Wednesday joined the nationwide sit-in-dharna demanding social security for workers, abolishing the contractual work system, fixing living wages, and national labor policy at IG Park.

Speaking to the reporters, BMS General Secretary Tadung Yangfo said that the dharna was organized following the meeting resolution adopted during the 20th Triennial All India Conference of the BMS held in the first week of this month in Patna, Bihar. He said that though the economic condition of the country is improving, the working community is being ignored. Hence, the BMS is demanding that the central government bring out a solution to the matter so that the living wages of the workers are increased instead of minimum wages.

Likewise, the government should also abolish the contractual work appointment as it has no social or work security. Also, the need for a national labour policy is much needed, as it will secure the future of the labour force and its families. The entire demand is for all the workers engaged in the private and organized sectors.

"The working community does more work without any social security than the officers engaged in regular jobs. Therefore, the worker's community should be provided with every facility that is being given to other government officials," he said, adding that every district unit of BMS in the entire country will be submitting the demand letter to the PMO. Yangfo also informed that the future course of action regarding the demands will be decided following a meeting with the national unit of BMS.
