ITANAGAR: The Consul General of Bhutan from the Guwahati-based Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, Jigme Thinyle Namgyal, on Wednesday called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan here.
During the visit, they discussed various avenues where Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh can have mutually-beneficial collaborations.
The Governor said that both Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan have strong traditional cultural links with similarities in social and cultural heritage.
He emphasized strengthening the age-old relationships between the two friendly neighbours.
Mishra suggested 'people to people contact' and interactions through cultural exchange programmes and exchange of common literature. He called for exploring avenues in tourism, spiritual aspects and horticulture for socio-economic progress of the people of both the countries.
The Governor, who is the chief rector of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and president of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Society, suggested students and faculty exchange programmes between the Bhutanese universities and both the institutes in the State.
Mishra conveyed deep appreciation to His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the people of Bhutan.
