KHONSA: The Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) Kretkam Tikhak flagged off the 100 days 100 district campaign 'Aashwasan' to break the chain of the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and COVID-19 infection at General hospital Khonsa (GHK) on Friday.
Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute (PSMRI), through its Tribal Health Collaborative programme called 'ANAMAYA', will be conducting awareness campaigns regarding COVID-19 through mobile vehicles in 5 (five) blocks of Tirap Block of the Tirap district.
The campaign aims to address the misconception regarding TB and COVID-19 infection and address vaccine hesitancy among the people along with the adoption of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour by the general public.
Besides, sputum collection and testing will be done based on systems through an active case finding of potential TB patients at the village level and TB treatment will be provided free of costs by the Government upon confirmation of the disease.
This will help in preventing the spread of infectious disease like TB. Under this campaign people will not need to go to the Government health centres for testing, rather the sputum of presumptive cases will be collected from home and transported to the nearest diagnostic centres for testing.
Keeping in view the aspect of community participation, panchayat, tribal leaders and traditional healers will also be involved during the campaign to make the villages TB-free and educate people about TB and its prevention.
The project, supported by USAID, will be implemented by the Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute under ANAMAYA program with the help of the concerned department in the districts.
Among others, District Medical Officer (DMO) N Lowang, District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) Jayanti Thingnok, Medical Superintendent GHK Khogen Socia, health staff and paramedical workers and community mobilizers of Piramal Swasthya were also present during the launch of the programme.
