Central officer Chandra Shekhar Kumar inspects development projects in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: Union Panchayati Raj ministry additional secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar, who is on a three-day visit to Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh, held a meeting with the villagers of Lower Shocktsen village on Wednesday to take stock of various projects. The gaon burahs and panchayat members of various villages in the Jemeithang area placed their requests for the upgradation of Upper Primary School Jemeithang to Secondary Level, the opening of banking services, improved mobile network connectivity, solar fencing for protection of crops from wild animals, the posting of a regular doctor, and the establishment of a police station in the area.

The additional secretary asked the officer of the state Panchayati Raj department to prepare a detailed report on the requirements of the state, giving special consideration to remote areas and difficult locations, which would be placed with the Centre for consideration before allocating the 16th Finance Commission fund. Kumar further asked all the line departments and villagers to work sincerely towards achieving all the sustainable development goals by 2030, with a special focus on connectivity, nutrition, employment, education, and health facilities for all.

Speaking on the occasion, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo assured the villagers that the points raised by them would be conveyed to the government for consideration. He informed that, so far, no extra fund allocation for the Vibrant Village Programme has been received. The DC expressed his gratitude to the Union government for sending top bureaucrats of the country to such remote locations for monitoring and supervising the ongoing normal developmental activities under the vibrant village programme.

Tawang Zila Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) Leki Gombu requested the secretary for enhanced allocation under the 16th Finance Commission, considering the remoteness and tough conditions for the carriage of materials to the area. He also requested the provision of panchayat bhawans in all the gram panchayat segments. An official release informed that one of the gaon burah requested an enhancement of wages under the MGNREGA scheme.
