Itanagar: Chakat Aboh, wife of slain sitting National People’s Party MLA Tirong Aboh, filed her nomination papers for Khonsa West Assembly constituency by-poll in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh as an independent candidate on Monday.
She is the first candidate to submit her documents to Tirap Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon, the last date for filing nominations for the election scheduled on October 21 next, election office sources informed here.
Another three candidates have also submitted their nominations.
Five political parties, including the ruling BJP, in a meeting here on Saturday, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, had unanimously selected Chakat as consensus candidate and decided not to file any candidate.
By-election to the seat was necessitated after Tirong Aboh and 10 others including his son were assassinated allegedly by NSCN (IM) militants at Bogapani on May 21. However, he had won the election whose result was announced on May 23 this year.
