Itanagar: In a major breakthrough, Changlang district police have arrested a lady drug peddler along with four other drug addicts and recovered drugs from her possession during a joint operation, a top police official said here on Wednesday. A police team and Bordumsa-based 286 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested a drug peddler, Jaownko Singpho, a resident of Kerembisa village under Bordumsa police station on Tuesday, Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo informed.
The team recovered 14 small pouches containing pink coloured powder, suspected to be brown sugar weighing 134 grams, an electronic weighing machine, two mobile handsets and an amount of Rs 85,000, from Jaownko’s possession, the SP said.
Police also arrested four others namely Bisa Umada Singpho (30), Nongbo Wangdu Singpho (32), Umadu Singpho (23) and Gamthoi Singpho (31) for consuming drugs, the SP said.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Bordumsa police station against the accused, he said.
The SP disclosed that the arrested drug peddler informed the police during interrogation that she had purchased the drugs from a train platform at Dimapur in Nagaland from an unknown person.
Appealing youths to stay away from drug addiction, the SP said that all-out efforts to curb the drug menace in the entire district would continue.
