BORDUMSA: Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo has appealed to the people of the district to join the crusade against the menace of drugs.
Gambo said that people's coordinated efforts and contribution are essential to curb the menace of drugs and trafficking.
Gambo was addressing the people of Wagun Ponthai and its neighbouring villages during the inaugural ceremony of the de-addiction centre in Arunachal's Bordumsa. Inmates undergoing treatment at various rehabilitation centres must complete the minimum duration of the courses or else they might have to face the legal prosecutions as per the provisions of the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, local legislator Somlung Mossang, after inaugurating the institution, formally appreciated the efforts of the Ponthai Welfare Society for spearheading the noble drive of treating and rehabilitating the addicts institutionally. Mossang, who was the chief guest on the occasion, also announced a financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh to the management team in a phased manner.
Mentioning that a similar awareness meeting was held earlier in Kharsang under the initiative of women organizations, the Bordumsa-Diyun MLA hoped that the addicts from nearby villages would also be absorbed in the de-addiction centres to serve the wider cause.
"The State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu has already been driving intensely against the menace of drugs and have achieved several milestone over a period of time," said Mossang, while assuring that "I will further assist based on the performance of the centres."
"Helping the addicts with formal treatment and rehabilitating them by means of creating avenues of sports, music etc., were one of the electoral promises of the MLA which have been fast materializing,"' said Jiban Khariya, an Adivasi leader of the Bordumsa. The ADC of Bordumsa Sub-Division, Oling Lego during his address threw light on the perverse effect of various forms of drugs, which intoxicate the human mind and destroy the ability to act rationally.
It may be mentioned here that around 33 persons identified for addiction to various forms of narcotic substances registered themselves to avail the treatment at the newly-inaugurated centre.
