ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh reported 379 fresh COVID-19 positive cases, pushing the total caseload in the northeastern state to 47,856, a senior health official said here on Saturday.

The death toll in the frontier State increased to 226 with one more person succumbing to the infection on Thursday, the official said.

A 65-year-old COVID-19 positive lady from Lower Subansiri died at a health facility in the district on Thursday due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid Pneumonia, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. Of the fresh cases, the Capital Complex Region registered the highest number at 112, followed by Lower Subansiri (35), Changlang (33), Papumpare (28), Lohit and West Kameng at 18 each, Upper Subansiri, West Siang and Namsai at 15 each and East Siang at 14 cases, the official said.

Ten new cases each were also reported from Lower Dibang Valley and Upper Siang, eight each from Anjaw and Tawang, seven from Leparada, six each from Kamle and Shi Yomi, five each from Tirap, Lower Siang and East Kameng, three from Longding, two from Siang and one from Dibang Valley district respectively, the SSO said.

Among the fresh cases, 353 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 18 through RT-PCR and 8 by TrueNat methods, the official said adding, 173 people were symptomatic.

The active cases in the state now stand at 4,142, he said.

As many as 488 patients were cured of the disease on Friday taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 43,488, Jampa said.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stands at 90.87 per cent while the active percentage stands at 8.65 and the positivity rate at 6.13 per cent, the SSO said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 1,120, followed by Lower Subansiri (324), Papumpare (322), Lohit (270), West Kameng (267) and East Siang at 201 cases.

Altogether, 9,33,698 samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the state so far, including 6,182 on Friday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 8,50,968 people have been administered Covid-19 vaccine doses so far in the state since the inoculation drive began in January this year.
