ITANAGAR: Antisocial crime mongers are away after installation of LED-based Solar Lights at strategic locations in Aalo Town, the headquarters of West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
All the dark areas from Sipu Bridge to Samsan Ghat (Mebbu), Nehru Chowk to Medical Colony and Cooperative Chariali to GHHS Gate now remain illuminated at night. Earlier, criminals and drug users have been taking advantage of the darkness to carry on activities.
A total of 50 streetlights of 60W module, 23 watt LED luminaries with three days independent back-up semi-integrated solar system with sensor and lithium ferrophospate battery are being used.
The systems have been installed under the initiatives of the Deputy Commissioner Swetika Sachan on an experimental basis, official sources informed here on Wednesday.
The DC had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh from the United Fund.
The Aalo division of Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) has implemented the project in collaboration with the district administration and police.
The DC also provided Solar Lights at the Siang Sadan compound and the Judicial Custody compound. Solar technology is one of the best options in lighting solutions due to its independent operation mode. Moreover, conventional street lighting has problems in the billing system.
The District Developmental Committee recently had put up a proposal for solar streetlights for the entire township in the Budget estimate, the sources added.
