ITANAGAR: To attract adventure aficionados, the Mishmi Takin Adventures in the Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh has opened a white-water river rafting sports on the river Dree.

The event was inaugurated by District Tourism Officer Shanti Mize on Sunday. Zila Parishad chairperson Theko Tayu is hosting the event with the members of the Mishmi Takin Adventures.

The Mishmi Takin Adventures is a company run by a team of locals with the motto to promote responsible tourism. The team strives to bring a change in the mindset of the people dependent on wildlife and forest of the Mishmi hills and to motivate and inspire them to acknowledge and appreciate the rich tradition and culture of the Mishmis that have conserved and fostered the forest and the wildlife.

The team targets to train and employ the locals engaged in hunting and divert the immense knowledge about the forest into tourism. The team would be launching its website for tourists very soon with different itineraries. Till then, the tourists can enjoy the white water river rafting with the team. Accordingly, the rafting routes are classified in two categories.

In the route one, one could go for rafting from Karo to the Acheso riverside camp with a distance of five kilometers with grade I and II rapids which are safe for children. In the second route of 12 kilometers distance, rafters could go from Cheyagu to the Acheso riverside camp which has grade three-plus rapids.
