KAMBA: State Assembly Speaker PD Sona on Thursday inaugurated the 26th Annual College Day of Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki in presence of local MLA-cum-Advisor to Home Nyamar Karbak, Likabali MLA Kardo Nyigyor and Basar MLA Gokar Basar at the college campus.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker exhorted the students' community to refrain from unwanted things and focus on their studies & goals.
Expressing concern over growing behavioural problems in educational institutions during student elections and other such occasions, the Speaker asserted that there is no place for violence in civilized society and students must focus on a bright future as the competition level is getting tougher day by day.
Reiterating that youths are the future who will shoulder the responsibilities of the state and nation, the Speaker said that it is the collective responsibility of every society to channel the youths.
"We need to channelize the youths in positive directions and then only we can churn cream out of them," the Speaker said.
The Speaker further suggested the youths not be a liability to society and family but rather be a contributing part of the nation-building and society uplift.
He also advised the students to always listen to their elders and seek guidance for they are the people who are full of wisdom and will sincerely guide them in their future endeavours.
"Never undermine your elders thinking they have become old and they won't know anything. Elders are wise and they have lots of experience in life," the Speaker said while urging the youths to look up to their elders for guidance.
The Speaker also lauded the students' community of DPGC for electing a lady general secretary for the first time since 1996.
"I congratulate and appreciate the students' community of DPGC for electing a lady general secretary. This shows that you know the importance of women's empowerment," the Speaker said and opined that women can lead better than their male counterparts.
Speaking on the importance of protection and preservation of the environment, the Speaker called upon the students to create awareness of saving Mother Nature & this beautiful earth.
Meanwhile, the Speaker urged upon all the participating students in various games & sports events during the Annual College Day to maintain sportsmanship spirit. "There should be healthy competition. Winning and losing is part of the game but those who despite losing the game and accept it gracefully are the real winners," he said.
Local MLA-cum-Advisor to Home Nyamar Karbak, Likabali MLA Kardo Nyigyor and Basar MLA Gokar Basar also spoke on the occasion and shared their words of advice to the students.
