Drought-mitigation measures discussed to provide relief to farmers across Bordumsa

BORDUMSA: To provide relief for the farmers hit by the drought-like situation across Bordumsa Circle in Changlang District of Arunachal, the Bordumsa Sub Divisional admimistration held talk with various departments of the government, public leaders and farmers representatives here today at the conference hall of the ADC Bordumsa.

Chaired by Bordumsa ADC Talo Jerang, the meeting explored the possibilities of providing irrigation facilities to the affected farmers. The meeting was also attended among others by PHED Executive Engineer N Kipa, Bordumsa ADO A.S. Yadav, Bordumsa HDO T. Thungkang, Bordumsa ZPM Khachang Maio, and the president of 'Arunachal Pradesh Farmers' Development Society, Nwangsa Singpho. The meeting observed that in all the 15 'Lift Irrigation' pump sets installed in 15 villages have been lying defunct for a decade. And those in Kherm Pisa, Kherem Mura, Khumung Pather and Saimu Village area are in the repairable state which could be reused to feed the drought-prone areas.

Similarly, the meeting also resolved to distribute responsibilities to the departments for channelizing the water from reservoirs and dams or drilling points to the agricultural fields within a short time.

However expressing helplessness at the uncertain nature of the monsoon, the Bordumsa ADC said, ''With very few days left for the concluding agricultural operation, we can only tap whatever limited resources we have to provide whatever relief we can.''

Meanwhile, the administrator also asked the president of 'Arunachal Pradesh Farmers Development Society', Nwangsa Singoho that the local legislator can be moved for aid to devise the mechanism. Talking to The Sentinel, Jerang said coordinated efforts said that another meeting of the relief committee will be held at 10:30 am on August 19.
