BORDUMSA: "In order to accommodate the youths in gainful and productive platforms and shun the path of drug addiction here in Bordumsa -Diyun, I have meaningful agendas to execute in the days ahead," said MLA Bordumsa Somlung Mossang while addressing the media on Friday afternoon. Mr Mossang had earlier inaugurated a 10-beded drug de addiction centre here in Bordumsa old CHC premises in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. DC Changlang Dr. Devansh Yadav IAS, Mihin Gambo the Superintendent of Police Changlang, Talo Jerang the ADC Bordumsa and District Medical Officer Changlang accompanied the MLA during the inaugural ceremony.

Countering the menace of the drug abuse was also a part of my electoral campaign in 2019 and I am still striving hard to realize the end if needed by physical participation in counseling the youths who have fallen prey to drug addictions, he said.

"The centre would go a long way in rehabilitating and reforming the addicts specially the youth's segments of the entire district. I am here to support the cause in all the best possible ways," said the MLA.

Meanwhile, DC Changlang during his address reiterated his earlier efforts in cracking the menace at various locations of Bordumsa by means of temporary detention and financial impositions which was halted suddenly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the targeted action plan would be revived soon and by initiating talks with the counterpart of Assam, the drive would be accelerated with the help of local police and organizations.

"Based on the performance of the centre, the administration after few months might put proposal for the enhancement of the capacity of the centre," said the DC.

However, SP Changlang Mihin Gambo wondered in his speech 'why Changlang district tops the list of drug related cases', and expressed the helplessness of the local police in most of the cases in releasing the accused on bails secured chiefly on medical grounds.

According to the top cop of the district, as many as 38 drug related cases including the NDPS Act were registered in the District in 2017 and 24 cases were recorded in 2018 while in 2019 it was just 1 less and stood at 23 but was marked by comparatively higher recovery of the contraband substances.

"As for 2020, we have registered 24 cases till October 16," said the police official. Differentiating the NDPS cases with that of other cases under IPC or CRPC, the top cop also said that drug related cases are most sensitive and deadly in nature. Gambo also figured the recovery of various contraband substances in the District chronologically from 2017 to till date.
