Itanagar: Continuing its drive against crime, East Siang Police has cracked down on organized drug trafficking by nabbing two drug dealers and recovered 100 grams of brown sugar.
East Siang police is maintaining a high vigil on district borders and movement of unscrupulous elements owing to increased threat perception in view of Diwali, an official communiqué informed here on Monday.
On Sunday police received information about two persons who were going to deliver substances suspected to be prohibited narcotic drugs. Accordingly, a team consisting of Ruksin police station officer in charge Inspector T Tali, ASI Biren Pegu, ASI T Ngupok, HC Motilal Tayeng and HC Subhash Prasad under the supervision of DySP Token Saring was constituted.
The team spotted and secretly followed the suspects to an abandoned building at Solung Mopin ground Ruksin, where they nabbed two persons namely Bharat Dalbong of Ngorlung and Gelek Lobsang of Jonai in Assam’s Dhemaji district. Nine packets of suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 100 gms were recovered from them. The market value of the products is approximately Rs 1.2 lakhs. The accused are being interrogated and a case under NDPS Act was registered.
East Siang police has requested the citizens of the district to come forward and provide police with reliable information regarding drug peddling, the communiqué added.
