ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday asked the agency executing the Rs 37.87 crore Parshuram Kund Development Project (PKDP), in the Lohit district of the State, to expedite the work on war footing.

While reviewing the project, being executed under the State Public Works Department (PWD) with Central funds under the PRASAD scheme, Mein said, "Parshuram Kund is going to be one of the biggest pilgrimage sites in the country and it will be developed into a major tourist destination."

Mein asked the Deputy Commissioner of Lohit to map the earmarked area of 75 hectare in Parshuram Kund and to make it free from all encumbrances. He further asked the Project Manager of Parshuram Kund Development Project to prepare a master plan indicating all the components like river-front restaurant, view point, children park, guest house, etc., which could be taken up in the Phase-II of the project. The Deputy Chief Minister informed that funds for flood protection and boundary wall for the Kund has already been sanctioned by the State Government and an amount of Rs 1 crore would be provided as annual grants-in-aid by the Government to the committee for running and maintenance of the pilgrimage site and for organizing an annual mela in the site.

He asked the DC to constitute a committee involving the Parshuram Kund Development Trust and local people to oversee the functioning and maintenance of the pilgrimage site.

Mein also enquired about the status of National Highway project from Brahmakund to Chongkham, which he had assured to take up with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

In the meeting, former Chongkham MLA-cum-patron of the Parshuram Kund Development Society (Trust) CT Mein, Namsai DC RK Sharma, Lohit DC Marge Sora, SE PWD (E-Z)-cum-project Manager T Tabin, tourism director Abu Tayeng, Lohit ZPC Sadula Krisikro and sage from Parshuram Kund Hari Sharan Das were present among others, an official report said here.
