Itanagar: Majority of ambitious first time voters in Arunachal Pradesh are with a clear vision for the state’s future and say they expect political leaders to focus on issues like jobs, women’s safety and stability in the politically fragile state.

They want upcoming lawmakers of the state to change the narrative for a better tomorrow, saying the state’s development should their main agenda.

The over 27, 000 odd first-time voters in the state have reflected the angst of the young and their hopes for the new government who, they believe, would be able to usher in a new dawn of development with peace as the main agenda.

The first time voters are excited to have a life-time experience by exercising their adult franchise and hopeful that the party who would come to power in the Himalayan state would attach priority on development of youth and ensuring employment avenues to the unemployed youth. For 21-year-old Kalung Pinky, who casted her vote at Government Secondary School polling station at P-Sector here, said that she had exercised her adult franchise as per her conscience.

“People should vote such persons irrespective of party affiliations who could really work for the interest of the people. I hope the first time voters will vote those candidates who will be able to bring a change in the stereo-type political scene in the state so that people could lead a peaceful life without any discrimination in the developmental process,” Pinky, who is a student of degree second semester, added.

Another first time voter Yari Nabam who casted her vote at Arunudaya Higher Secondary School at Vivek Vihar here, expressed that she want a stable government in the state this time which has been witnessing political instability since 2011 after the death of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu in a chopper crash on April 30 that year.

“We need a change in the political system and need such leaders who could deliver in real sense,” a visibly excited Nabam said.

Norbu Tsering, who had casted his first vote at Niti Vihar secondary school polling booth here, was of the view that the new government in the state would create enough employment avenues for the youths.

“As youth, we are all concerned about jobs. The political leaders and lawmakers we elect should work on improving the employment scenario,” Norbu a student of English literature in a private college here said. A good job, political stability and peaceful environment are on the wish-list of many first time voters in the state.

“Every vote is valuable. I know the significance of elections. For me, unemployment issue is the main factor for electing a MLA and the MP from my state,” commented Tadak Basar, a student. “We don’t feel inspired by any particular party. All parties have their own issues,” Basar added.
