ITANAGAR: More than 50 Mithuns (Bos frontalis) are reported to be suffering from Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) at Tato Circle of Shi-Yomi district in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said here on Monday.

FMD outbreak was reported a couple of months back at East Kameng district and Kurung Kumey districts, which later spread to invade Aalo, Yomcha, Kamba and Darak circles of West Siang district before spreading to Tato circle, the officials said.

The Veterinary and Animal Husbandary department at Shi-Yomi district is going through a tough time in treating the infected animals as per the laid down protocols.

State Veterinary and Animal Husbandary Minister Tage Taki are closely monitoring the situation and supervising daily activities to contain the disease.

He has assured the district veterinary officers (DVOs) of making the availability of medicines wherever needed.

The disease resurfaces every few years in the state and takes a toll on domesticated livestock.
