ITANAGAR: Father of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki breathed his last at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday after prolonged illness, family sources informed. He was 75.

Born on April 11, 1945 at Ompuli Village under Sagalee sub-division of Papumpare district, Takey served as Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) from Ompuli for two consecutive terms from 1977-1983.

He was also the Head GaonBurha (HGB) in 1992.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed shock over the demise of Takey. In his condolence message, Khandu said "The news came as a shocker to me. Takey was an influential and respected person from Sagalee region. Takey was associated with grass root politics and had served as Gram Panchayat Member for three consecutive terms. He also served as GaonBurah of Ompuli from 1978-1990.

"I believe, leaving this mortal world will not diminish the love and affection showered on him by the people and his soul will remain immortal. So would his footsteps and the contributions made to the region during his long and memorable career. In his demise, the State has lost a highly respectable senior citizen and a very good human being," said Khandu.

"I know this would be the most trying times for the family members to cope with the irreparable loss, I hope my humble words of consolation would ease the grief even if a little. In this moment of grief, me, my family, colleagues in the government and people of the State extend our solidarity with you and share the pain inflicted on you," added the Chief Minister.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Assembly Speaker Passang Dorjee Sona also mourned the death of Takey.

The APCC in a condolence message here on Sunday, deeply mourned the sudden demise of Takey. "Takeywas a thinker, intellectual and a great human being. His contribution and distinguished service towards the society will always be remembered," the APCC said in a condolence message and prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the family members to bear the irreparable loss.

His last rites will be performed at his native village of Ompuli on Monday.
