PASIGHAT: The four-day Central Solung festival celebration, the agricultural festival of the Adi community, began here at Gidii Notko with traditional fervour and gaiety on Tuesday.

Various cultural bonanza and Miss Lune are lined up in the four-day celbrations. Cutomary 'Taku Tabat' was perfomed by the chief guest and special guest. Extending his Solung greetings, chief guest (Pondo Bote) Er. Katung Wage, president of IFCSAP, said,"We owe it to pass onto our young generation our rich cultural heritage and traditions and make them take pride in their heritage, dialects and customs. Let's make it a practice to speak our native dialects with our children beginning from our homes and expose them to our festivals and cultural events."

Wage said that the IFCSAP was currently undertaking the 'Mission towards Indigenous roots' towards the objective of protecting and documentation of the rich heritage and roots. He made a fervent appeal to the indigenous people for preserving their age-old belief system, folklores, folktales, customs and traditions and dialects through documentation and various efforts. The IFCSAP president also invoked the blessings of Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo as the torchbearer of the indigenous faith movement. Vice-president of Tagin Cultural Society, Tambo Tamin, who joined the celebration as the special guest (Pondo Tomtek), said festivals promote the spirit of oneness and community bonding. He also spoke about the efforts of the Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA), GoAP for promotion of the indigenous culture.
