ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Sunday asked the gaon burahs (village headmen) for strict adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour and to take vaccines to defeat the virus.

Mishra, who is on a four-day tour to West Kameng and Tawang districts to participate in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, interacted with the gaon burahs at Dirang in West Kameng district, an official communiqué informed here.

The Governor informed the villagers that to defeat the COVID-19 virus, there must be a concerted effort by everyone particularly the youth and gaon burahs to strictly adhere to effective use of face mask, frequent washing of hands, social distancing and taking the vaccine without any apprehensions. He said, that as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, people should pledge to fight and defeat the pandemic.

The Governor advised the villagers to participate with positive contribution in all developmental activities undertaken by the State Government. As a token of affection, the Governor presented them with essential daily utility items, before leaving for Tawang.

The Governor on his way to Tawang laid wreath at Jaswant Garh War Memorial and paid tribute to the 1962 War Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat. He also paid his respect to the war heroes of the Indo-Sino War.

Recalling the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers, who laid down their life for the territorial integrity of the motherland, the Governor, said that the brave hearts would always be an inspiration for every citizen of the country.

Commending all ranks of the 46 Mountain Brigade for the well-maintained war memorial, the Governor said that the commemorative monument was a jewel in the tourism map of Arunachal Pradesh.
