Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday extended their warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Mopin, the agro-based festival of the Galo community. The Governor in his festival message expressed his hope that the festivity would spread love, peace, and communal harmony among all tribes of the state. Mishra said, “Mopin is one of the most popular festivals of Arunachal Pradesh. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of the state. Like many other indigenous festivals of Arunachal Pradesh, the festival is connected with the agrarian backdrop. The festival is observed as a prayer to Goddess of Prosperity. I trust the celebration shall usher-in prosperity and a good harvest in our society.”
“On this joyous occasion, I join my Galo brethren in offering our prayers to Anyi Pinku Pinte to bestow each one of us with her choicest blessings,” the governor wished in his message.
Khandu in his message said, “I wish my Galo brothers and sisters on the joyous occasion of Mopin that marks the beginning of the spring season, a symbol of peace and joy. I join you all on this joyous occasion with great zeal and enthusiasm.”
He lauded the Galos, one of the major tribes of the state, for safeguarding their rich cultural heritage and for being a churning ground for luminaries of the state.
While offering prayers to Ane Mopin for a prosperous life ahead, Khandu emphasized on the need to preserve the distinct cultural identity of the indigenous communities along with their respective languages.
“Let’s all join this festival of white, symbolizing peace and prosperity, with our Galo brethrens and express our gratitude to them for their contributions in the progress of our State,” Khandu added.
