Horticulture Department Team Conducts Field Visit

Itanagar: A monitoring team of the horticulture department, comprising joint director of horticulture (Temperate Zone) Narang Tani, horticulture development officer (HDO) Daniel Nabam and Tirap district horticulture officer (DHO) Henrik Basar, visited the horticulture fields in Lazu circle of the district on Sunday.

According to an official communiqué here on Monday, the horticulture scheme was implemented in the circle this year as an alternative to opium cultivation, with the aim of eradicating the opium culture from the area. During the inspection, the team interacted with the beneficiaries and advised them not to cultivate opium again. Highlighting the ill effects of opium consumption, and the laws against opium cultivation and sale, the team encouraged the farmers to take up horticulture activities on a large scale to benefit economically.
