ITANAGAR: Bamboo-made kaccha houses with CGI sheet roofs and half brick walls in the Forest Colony at Naharlagun near here, where 14 families were living on rent besides owner Tadar Lelum, were gutted into ashes in a devastating fire incident on Saturday, causing massive losses to the occupants.

Naharlagun Fire and Emergency Service (FES) in-charge station officer SI Tayor Tare informed that on receiving information two fire tenders with 14 personnel rushed to the spot and reached within five minutes.

Seven CRPF personnel pitched in along with local people and fought for over one and half hours to douse the fire. However, refilling the fire tenders either at Doimukh or Yupia caused inordinate delay in fire fighting, Tare rued.

Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso said that he has been repeatedly urging the State Government, particularly Home Minister Bamang Felix, for adequate fire stations in the State, but no action has been initiated so far despite repeated assurances.
