ITANAGAR: The international day for girls was observed at the government middle school in Borum, near here, on Wednesday. Organized by the Papum Pare district women and child development department, the daylong event included an awareness programme on mental health issues, protecting boys from norms of toxic masculinity, and planting fruit-bearing trees on the school campus. ICDS deputy director Aroti Tayeng spoke about why the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has to become the cornerstone for all schemes and programmes for the safety, protection, and empowerment of the girl child’s life continuum. ` She urged the stakeholders to come forward together and join hands for the best interest of the girl child. A psychiatrist from Midpu Mental Hospital, Poona Baja, spoke on mental health issues and protecting boys from norms of toxic masculinity. Advocate Tarh Nagu spoke about the POCSO Act and encouraged the children to be brave and report to the authorities whenever offences against children are witnessed.
