International Seminar on Ethnicity concludes In Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU)

RONO HILLS: A two-day international seminar conducted on the themes “Ethnicity, Livelihood and Culture Change Among the Himalayan People: Anthropology and Beyond” organized by the Department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IRGMS), Bhopal, concluded here on Tuesday.

In his valedictory speech Convener, Indian National Trust for Art and Heritage (INTACH) Dehradun, Dr Lokesh Ohri spoke about his study on the Jaunsar tribe of Uttrakhand. He emphasized in his deliberations the change and continuity issues among the same tribe.

Citing example of the Jaunsar tribe, Dr Ohri reflected the need to ponder on the primordial model that was defined by the earlier eminent research scholars in order to understand the issue of modernity.

Vice-Chancellor, RGU Professor Saket Kushwaha, emphasized the important of conducting such significant seminars to explore the broader understanding on the issues like ethnicity, livelihood and culture change issues.

He also appealed to all the stakeholders and participants to do more in-depth research on the various others issue including the present research area. He also appreciated all the organizing committee and the foreign research scholars for participating in the seminar.
