ITANAGAR: The Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) on Thursday said that any organization involved in any kind of forceful donation or extortion from the business community will be dealt with strongly.

Addressing the media at the press club here, newly-elected IMWA president Dado Tajuk said that the association will not tolerate any such activity within the Itanagar market regions.

While appealing to the business community to boycott such donations, he said a help desk will be set up in the office to deal with such cases. Also, a group of volunteers will be monitoring such matters.

"We will not tolerate any kind of extortion, donation, smuggling of drugs and selling of other banned items within our jurisdiction. Anyone having information of such activities should inform our office," he said, adding that the identity of the informer shall not be disclosed.

Tajuk informed that the unmanaged roadside vendors have been creating serious problems for the shops, thereby minimizing the flow of customers. Therefore, the association will come up with a proper solution to the matter so that none of them are hampered in running their businesses.

"The association will work to find a space for roadside vendors. The team will take up the concern to the district administration along with the vendors association," he added.

He also appealed to the business community to operate their respective business with proper documents and also update their trade license on time.

"In case of any legal case due to non-renewal of trade license or running business without documents, the association should not be blamed. Therefore, everyone should see if their business is operated legally," he said.

When questioned on the specific amount of money collected from the shops by IMWA, Tajuk said that the collection is for the welfare of the business community and will be minimal.

Meanwhile, IMWA general secretary Nanu Taw Tara said that the other prime focus of the association is on modernization and beautification of market areas. To do so, he has appealed to the public to cooperate.

Tara also appealed to the business community to be responsible and avoid dumping of garbage in open areas. Instead, they should collect the garbage and dump it in the designated location.

"IMWA will coordinate with ICM and district administration in the garbage management. Let us be responsible and support IMWA in making the capital clean and healthy," he said.

He also informed that issues like high rate of commodities and the jurisdiction of IMWA shall be discussed soon with the concerned department and unions and will be accordingly resolved in the days to come.

"Likewise, having a corpus fund and providing health facilities to the business community are also our prime focus," he added.
